Rick Riordon’s Percy Jackson books gave us the world of demi-gods and Olympians and if you’re a fan, get ready to see your demi-gods returning to your screens!
Author Rick Riordan took to Twitter to announce that the beloved fantasy series will officially get a TV series adaption with Disney!
Rick appeared in a video with his wife Becky and surprised Percy Jackson fans saying, “after a lot of hard work and a lot of support from you guys, Percy Jackson is coming to Disney+! More later!”
Yes, be prepared to see your favourite demi-god in Camp Half-Blood because the live-action adaptation is coming, and most probably for five seasons!
“We can't say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one,” Rick said in a follow-up statement.
A season for each book in the fantasy series, starting from The Lightning Thief, followed by Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian… we’re beyond excited!
“Rest assured that Becky and I will be involved in person in every aspect of the show. There will be much more news in the future, but for now, we have a lot of work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It's going to be a fantastic exciting ride!"
Fans are going crazy over the announcement with many saying they are going to re-read the entire book series!
One user suggested that Logan Lerman, the actor who played Percy Jackson in the movie-adaption, be casted to play the character’s father, Poseidon in the series, and others shared their dream cast of who should play the lead roles of Percy and Annabeth.
A tweet showed a fan-made mock look of how the series will look like on the streaming platform and it got the attention of many fans. Most are still overjoyed and in disbelief that the book is finally getting a live-action TV series adaptation.
The book series tells the story of Percy Jackson and how his life turned around when he discovered that he's a demi-god and the son of the Greek god Poseidon, as he sets off to find the lightning thief after he was accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt.
The books were adapted into a film series in 2010 with Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson and Alexandra Daddario playing Percy Jackson, Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase.
