You might have a cute name for your beloved pet but you might not have their names in their very own official Malaysian passport!
Yes, passports for your pet is an actual thing in Malaysia and it’s the cutest!
A tweet recently went viral with a pet owner showing a Malaysian passport for his adorable cat with the caption, “also today Floof Boi is officially a Catizen of Malaysia. p.s: apparently ugly passport/IC photos does not only apply to humans.”
If you didn’t know, “pet passports” have been available in Malaysia since 2010 and it’s available for four types of animals: cats, dogs, rabbits and horses!
The animal identification card was launched under the Malaysian Animal Traceability System (MATs) Project and aims to help control animal diseases by building a formal animal identification database system!
Twitter user @ShazGhaF hopes to encourage more people to get one for their pets and jokingly said that they might forget they are Malaysians if they don’t have one!
Many netizens are surprised to find out about the pet passport and according to the tweet, you can get one for your pet along with a microchip and vaccine for RM85!
The pet owner also mentioned to go to the Department of Veterinary service hospital “really early in the morning to beat the queue” and “you should be done by noon.”!
So if you’ve always wanted to get a passport for your pets (or so that they don’t forget their roots) now you know how!
