Ariana Grande has a major cheerleader in her corner for this year’s Academy Awards—her ex-fiancé, Pete Davidson.

The Saturday Night Live alum recently told PageSix that he’s rooting for the pop star-turned-actress to take home an Oscar for her role as Glinda in Wicked.

“I hope she wins the Oscar, I hope she takes the gold,” Davidson said. “When we see each other, which is few and far between because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love.”

Davidson and Grande made headlines when they started dating in 2018, moving at lightning speed from whirlwind romance to engagement within weeks. Their relationship inspired Grande’s song Pete Davidson on her album Sweetener, and though they split just months later, Davidson remained a memorable part of her hit Thank U, Next.

Beyond showing support for his ex, Davidson also opened up about his own career and personal battles. In the same interview, he admitted that rewatching his original SNL audition made him emotional.

“The innocence in my eyes made me so sad,” he shared. “Showbiz is so tough, and I didn’t know how tough it was. I picked the wrong business to have a mental illness and go into.”

Davidson, now 31, also reflected on feeling like an outsider during his early SNL years. “Everyone was 10-plus years older than me. They were getting married, having kids, and I was like, ‘Do you guys want to come over to play video games?!’” he joked.

Grande, now officially an Oscar nominee, is competing in the Best Supporting Actress category against Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).

Her film, Wicked, is also up for Best Picture and eight other awards, including Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo.

No matter the outcome, Davidson is clearly rooting for his ex-fiancée to shine on Hollywood’s biggest night. Wouldn’t it be wicked if she won?
