India was recently reported to have punished some tourists for breaking the lockdown by making them write “I am sorry” 500 times, but Pampanga, Philippines has taken things to a whole new level!
Quarantine violators in Pampanga were forced to plant vegetables in the city nursery after they were caught flouting the quarantine rules.
The city police director, Col. Paul Gamido said that at least 35 of the first-time offenders from the enhanced community quarantine area were made to plant for two to three hours.
“We made them plant kalabasa and okra for two to three hours,” he said while revealing that they used to make the violators do body exercises for several hours. “I think making them plant vegetables is more productive nowadays.”
The offenders were arrested for violating the set curfew hours, failure to wear face masks or were unable to present a quarantine pass. All of the offenders were males and were taught gardening methods.
The city nursery produces ready-to-plant seedlings and popularized urban gardening in 44 schools and 35 villages over the years.
The seedlings were particularly helpful because of the scarce or pricey vegetables during the enhanced community quarantine in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga.
