Let’s admit it, you must have seen some of your friends posting snippets of movie scenes on their Instagram stories while they’re watching a movie in the cinema and sometimes... it even reveals spoilers too!
But spoilers aside, it’s actually illegal for you to record any movie scene from the cinema, even if it’s as short as ONE second!
According to the law, if you’re caught recording any audiovisual in the cinema, you might get a minimum fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM100,000 or jailed up to a maximum of five years or both!
Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) previously posted on their Instagram regarding the issue and that posting movie scenes and spoilers on social media might cause movie distributors to stop distributing movies to Malaysia.
So if you know someone that loves posting movie scenes on their social media, let them know about the consequences! Don’t get yourself in trouble just for the ‘gram!
