According to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, once the fuel Targeted Subsidy Programme begins next year, the price of RON95 will increase by one or two cents every week until it matches the market price.
“When we begin the targeted subsidy scheme, we will float the price of petrol to help reduce the cost of living, as well as to ensure that the prices of goods do not rise dramatically,” said its Deputy Minster Chong Chieng Jen.
“We will float the price of petrol in stages, maybe two cents a week or one cent a week, until the price of RON95 reaches the market price,” he said.

According to recent reports however, it’s been noted that this decision to increase the petrol price weekly is not yet finalized.
The Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution noted that his ministry has been discussing many matters especially the implementation of targeted petrol subsidy.
He added that the price increase is not finalized just yet but once the proposal has been agreed to by the Cabinet, only then will the ministry officially make an announcement on the pricing.
It may be a bit confusing but the conclusion is that there could be a weekly increase of price for RON95 starting next year, but that implementation has not been finalized just yet.
So, drivers, take note of the possible changes and we’ll keep you updated.
