The seven Ivy League universities includes Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Brown University, University of Chicago and Stanford University.
“It feels surreal that I will be halfway across the globe in September this year. I still can’t believe it,” Ivan, who will be enrolling for the 2025 class this year, told Malay Mail.
Besides his academic achievements, Ivan also helps the poor and needy and has joined various competitions and won many of them, including the Sime Darby Young Innovators Challenge (SDYIC) in 2016 where his team emerged as champions!
His team came up with an idea for an app called Robin Food that aims to curb food wastage and feed the needy as Malaysia’s first-ever food surplus app.
Proud of his diverse background of Iban, Bidayuh and Kadazan, Ivan constantly spreads awareness of indigenous languages on social media and even co-founded Komuhakan Movement, a non-profit organization that empowers the indigenous communities in Sabah!
“Last year, my team and I organised the inaugural writing competition for primary and secondary school students in collaboration with the Kadazandusun Language Foundation to preserve the Kadazandusun language.,” he shared with Malay Mail.
“A lot of indigeneous languages around the world are dying out, and if nothing is done about it, no one will be able to speak these languages.”
Many people on the internet are proud of Ivan’s accomplishments who has inspired many to believe that nothing is impossible!
Congratulations, Ivan Avannus Jacob Jimbangan!
