Didn’t know Rambutan was from the moon…

Malaysia is a land full of unique fruits that sometimes smell or taste weird to foreigners. While durian usually makes it to the top of the list of weird fruits, this time it’s rambutan that’s taking the spotlight!

Apparently, the hairy looking rambutan is so weird looking that a tv series called Another Life used it as an “alien fruit”!

In a now viral tweet, the series about space exploration shows two characters landing on a moon and finding an extraterrestrial fruit. They try experimenting and eating the fruit, but Malaysian all know it’s not so extraterrestrial after all.

And what’s funnier is that they actually scanned the “alien fruit” and even asked if it’s edible, before doing a “skin test” to check if it’s poisonous and causes a reaction before trying to eat it…

…and then the girl who ate it spat it out and said, “omg that’s disgusting” and proceeded to gargle her mouth with water to wash it. The disrespect.

Netizens found it funny that rambutan is considered an “alien fruit” and joked about living on the moon because they live near the rambutan orchard and some even found it funny that the man was rubbing the fruit on the woman’s lips like it’s lip balm.

If you’re interested in the series, it’s about astronauts going on an interstellar mission to track down the source of an alien artifact after it landed on Earth. The episode with the rambutan is in the fifth episode titled, “A Mind of its Own”. (Admin was curious, so we checked…)

So there you have it, rambutan might look like an alien fruit to westerners but it will always taste delicious to us!

What are your thoughts on it? Maybe they will use other Malaysian fruits as an extraterrestrial fruit next time!
