If you’re familiar with the phrase "looks like we've got another mystery on our hands", then you’re definitely a fan of the animated series Scooby-Doo! But sadly, the fandom is now mourning the loss of the show’s co-creator.
Reports have shared that Ken Spears, the co-creator of the beloved animated series has passed away at the age of 82.
His son Kevin Spears revealed in a statement that the co-creator had passed from complications related to Lewy body dementia.
“Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic,” the statement reads.
“Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of Scooby-Doo. Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts.”
Ken’s journey began in 1938 where he grew up in Los Angeles, California and was hired at Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1959 to work in sound editing.
It was there that he met and befriended Joe Ruby and partnered up to write scripts for many teleplays. The pair would later create iconic series like Scooby-Doo, Dog Wonder, Jabberjaw, Dynomutt and more.
They then established their own studio called Ruby-Spears Productions in 1977 and produced other series like Superman, Mister T, Alvin and the Chipmunks and more before they both retired years later.
Joe Ruby passed away at age 87 from natural causes in August this year, and now Ken too has passed away months later, last Friday.
With so many Scooby-Doo series, movies, reboots and spin-offs, many grew up watching the characters from the series and they will continue to live on in our hearts!
Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace, Ken Spears.
