Selena Gomez is keeping it 100 about life in the spotlight—and let’s just say, it’s not all glam and red carpets. In a recent chat on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Selena and her fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco, opened up about dealing with online negativity. Benny? He doesn’t even bother reading the comments. But…Selena? Different story.

“I was also going to point out that women have it much worse,” she said. “It’s wild. From our looks to what we wear, everything gets picked apart.”
And it’s not just about fashion critiques—Selena shared how she’s been judged for things way beyond her control. “I get ready for events and 90% of the time, I’m just hoping I can take the picture and sit down,” she admitted. “But people always have something to say—whether I’m ‘not white enough’ or ‘not Mexican enough.’”
The Only Murders in the Building star also touched on how her dating life gets dissected while men seem to get a free pass. “Nobody cares about those things with guys,” she pointed out.

Then there’s the endless chatter about her weight—something she’s been super open about, especially how her lupus medication affects her body. “Oh yeah, my weight’s a big one too,” she said. “It’s made me a tad bitter, and I feel guilty saying that, but it’s true.”
But at the end of the day, Selena’s doing what she can to protect her peace. “I had to stop after a while. I still take breaks because I’m human,” she said, revealing that she’s currently off social media. “I don’t hate it—I get its power—it’s just tricky.”
At the end of the day, Selena’s just speaking the truth—being a woman in the public eye comes with a ridiculous amount of scrutiny. But despite all the noise, she’s handling it with grace, setting boundaries, and keeping her head held up high.
