The wrestling world was in shock today after the death of former WWE star Shad Gaspard.
The 39-year-old pro wrestler’s body was found on Los Angeles’ Venice Beach by the police on Wednesday after a tragic incident.
Shad and his 10-year-old son were swimming at Venice Beach on Sunday when a riptide pushed them away from the shore. He entrusted the lifeguards to save his son first, but he was unfortunately dragged into the ocean after another large wave crashed down.
“The father unfortunately got pushed down by a wave as they were getting pulled out of the current. The lifeguard rescued and grabbed the boy, the son, and tried to grab the father as well,” said Kenichi Haskett of the LA County Fire Department.
“He ended up getting pushed down by a wave and we couldn't find him and we immediately started with our rescue boats, called in additional lifeguards to search that location of his dad.”
"He was going to try to rescue both," Haskett said. "But the father, in his last few words, said, 'Save my son.' "
The former pro wrestler’s wife Siliana Gaspard paid tribute to her late husband in a post saying, “Aryeh, myself and the Gaspard and Chittick families would like to take this time to thank everyone for their prayers and support, as we mourn the terrible loss of our beloved Shad.”
Aryeh, myself and the Gaspard and Chittick families would like to take this time to thank everyone for their prayers and support, as we mourn the terrible loss of our beloved Shad. . . Shad was our whole world and we were his. There are not enough words to describe what he means to all of us. He was our heart, our soul, our protector, our warrior. He was a bright force of nature, who brought joy to many through his joyous and gracious nature. . . The outpouring of love from Shad’s friends, colleagues and fans has meant more to us than you can even imagine. . . We’d like to once again thank the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their efforts. . . Shad was and will always be our real life super hero. . . I love you more, my love ❤️ . . Proudly, Siliana Gaspard
