4 people have been shot at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California, leaving 3 injured, and 1 dead.
Several hundred employees were evacuated after the shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon. The shooting suspect is a woman, according to San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a note out to employees: “It’s with great sadness that I tell you — based on the latest information — 4 people were injured in this horrific act of violence.” He continued, “We’re doing everything we can to support them and their families at this time.”
Many people were eating lunch on a patio in the rear of the building when the shooting began. Todd Sherman, a YouTube product manager, said in a Twitter thread that employees assumed an earthquake had happened. But people started running out of their meetings, and word got around that someone had a gun.
Here’s another tweet from another YouTube employee:
One person with a bullet wound was found at the front of the company headquarters. Minutes later, officers found a woman who appeared to have shot herself. Two further victims were later discovered at a nearby business.
While the story is still developing, our thoughts and prayers are with those involved. Take care, everybody!
