Many stores worldwide are closed due lockdowns and quarantines that are put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. And while bubble tea stores are still operational in Malaysia, Singaporean bubble tea fans are about to have their carvings held off for a while.
Singaporean bubble tea fans are rushing to buy their bubble tea for one last time as their government has taken dessert and bubble tea stores off the list of essential services in the country.
This comes as the COVID-19 Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced the tightened restrictions on F&B outlets as predominantly beverage and packaged snack outlets, confectionery and dessert stores, and all F&B outlets in parks are taken off the list to help fight the spread of the virus.
Singaporeans were seen gathered at bubble tea shops and waiting in long queues to satisfy their bubble tea cravings one last time… until the circuit breaker in Singapore ends on 1 June 2020 anyways.
Outlets with no visible queues in sight are instead handling bulk orders from delivery platforms and customers are reported to be waiting from 15 to 20 minutes for their order.
Some bubble tea outlets have also reportedly stopped taking orders and some have made orders unavailable on delivery apps.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that the “circuit breaker” period will be extended by four weeks until 1 June 2020 and have closed down more businesses and only “the most essential services” will be operational.
The island reported 1,111 new cases just a day after the country recorded a record daily high of 1,426 new COVID-19 cases.
Let’s hope things will get better in Singapore and everyone can start enjoying their bubble tea without worrying about the virus as soon as possible!
