When you hear 11 November (11/11) you might think that it’s THE day to get items on sale. But today is also a day for single people!
Also known as Guanggun Jie, Singles’ Day is celebrated in China for people that have no partners or relationships. The date was chosen because all the 1s in the date signifies single individuals!
Singles’ Day was initially only celebrated by men in China but is now celebrated by women too. A few universities in China also have special celebrations for 11/11!
In Korea however, 11/11 is known as Pepero Day where Koreans will decorate their Pepero snacks with teddy bears and flowers in hopes that they will be tall and slim, like the number 1.
In Belgium, 11/11 is a day to remember World War I and in Indonesia, it’s the National Online Shopping Day!
Are you single or know someone that has been single for a long time? Let us know!
