Aspiring K-pop idols in Southeast Asia will soon have the chance to train under one of the industry's biggest names.
SM Entertainment, the powerhouse behind groups like Girls' Generation, Super Junior, SHINee, and Aespa, is bringing its renowned training system to Singapore. SM Universe, a subsidiary specializing in K-pop training programs, announced on March 3 that it will open its first Southeast Asian academy at *SCAPE in June 2025.

SM Universe (Singapore) aims to provide "first-class comprehensive learning opportunities developed and delivered by K-pop industry veterans," according to a statement from the academy.
The curriculum includes a 21-week intensive program covering vocals, dance, music production, and stage presence—key skills needed to thrive in the K-pop industry. At the end of the program, students will travel to SM Universe’s Seoul campus for a week of hands-on training. Top-performing students will also have the opportunity to audition with leading South Korean entertainment agencies.
Speaking to CNA Lifestyle, an SM Universe (Singapore) spokesperson confirmed that the program will cost approximately US$10,000 (RM45,000). While there are no strict age limits, the academy expects most students to be between 13 and 18 years old.

Jang Jae-won, CEO of SM Universe, expressed excitement about expanding into Southeast Asia.
"This academy will provide aspiring K-pop artists in the region with world-class education and serve as a springboard for their growth as they pursue their dreams on the international stage," Jang said.
With its first training academy outside South Korea, SM Entertainment is taking another step in shaping the future of global K-pop talent.
