Animal habitats are affected by the weather sometimes and the recent blazing hot weather in Malaysia might be contributing to more snake appearances!
Reports state that there have been an increasing number of snake sightings and captures in the areas around the Kuala Muda district over the past two months.
Compared to last year, the total number of cases involving snakes has increased from 174 to 208 in January and February alone!
Kuala Muda Malaysian Civil Defense Force officer, Captain (PA) Azahar Ahmad explained that the hot and dry weather conditions is one of the factors that contributed to increase snake sightings.
The disturbance and destruction of their habitats is also another contributing factor. According to the Captain, the snakes that were caught were mostly “reticulated python and cobras”!
The public is reminded to clear out their trash so that the reptiles won’t make a home in it and to “be careful when wearing shoes and while using the toilets for fear of reptiles being there to stay cool.”
“Always make sure the windows and doors are closed and holes are covered to prevent snakes from entering the house, and check the car engine part as well as that is where snakes often take shelter from the heat,” he said.
So stay aware and follow these sssssteps to make sure you don’t have a snake encounter! Have you encountered any snakes lately? Tell us!
