Most people would think of the sahara desert as blazing hot with no signs of water to be found, but unusual weather which hit the desert has left it covered in SNOW!
A rare snowfall reportedly hit the sahara desert and parts of Saudi Arabia and covered the region with blankets of snow.
Many of the locals were excited over the rare snowfall as temperature in the region dropped below freezing point in what’s said to be the first time in half a century.
Images of camels surrounded by snow were captured along with pictures of the desert being transformed into a dreamlike state after the snowfall.
Video of parts of Saudi Arabia blanketed by snow also made their way around social media.
The desert can reach up to 50°C during the hot season and while snow and ice are an unusual occurrence, it’s not completely out of the ordinary.
The desert town in Algerian Sahara was previously dusted in snow in 2018 and 2017 too, with the last snowfall recorded back in 1980.
Researchers also expected the dry desert to turn green again in about 15,000 years.
People online were shocked to see the usually hot desert covered in ice and while many thought the captured images were beautiful, many feared for the world’s climate change.
