Malaysia is full of talented individuals who are constantly winning awards and breaking records worldwide and this Malaysian tower runner just broke a world record!
Malaysian tower runner Soh Wai Ching just broke the Guinness World Record for the greatest vertical height stair climbing in one hour in Kuala Lumpur!
The tower runner who is also Asia’s number one tower running athlete, completed his attempt and recorded a total of 1.295km on Wednesday climbing the 66-floors of the Four Seasons Hotel in KL.
The record was previously held by David Robles Tapia with 1.227km in an hour set in Zaragoza, Spain back in 2019.
"There are numerous reasons behind this [world record attempt] including promoting Malaysia to the world and getting more people to take up the sport as well as to raise funds for our association's activities for 2021,” the new record holder said.
"Through this, I also hope that many more will continue to challenge the boundaries and eventually get this sport recognised and introduced in the Olympics.”
The world No.2 tower running athlete, who is also president of the Malaysia TowerRunning Association, will now be awaiting official results that will be announced within two days.
"I am glad that I managed to clock in good time with the run but I am a little disappointed that I couldn’t reach my personal target distance of 1.3 km within the hour,” he said to Bernama.
"I will work hard in my next run to break well over this target," he said adding that he plans to run up the Petronas Twin Tower in the future when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.”
Congratulations for completing your greatest vertical height stair climbing Guinness World Record attempt! Malaysia is proud you!
