SPM season is currently going on and this year’s Additional Mathematics is said to be one of the hardest papers that students have had to take.

The paper was so tough that even teachers were struggling to answer the questions!

Because of the paper that drove some students to tears, a petition has been started that calls on the Education Ministry to lower the Add Maths paper to allow for a passing mark of 5%.

The petition reads:

“This year the additional mathematics paper was too hard and the government had added questions so hard that it takes teachers 1 hour to complete 2 questions. The batch of students that sat for the paper kindly request that the government reduce the passing marks for the paper.”

The petition, that was started by Joseph Tan, asks that the passing mark for the paper to be lowered to 5% with a score of 50% as an A+.

In just two days, the petition has garnered over 23,000 signatures and its goal is to gain 25,000. And the signatures keep pouring in!

After the exams, a lot of concerns were raised regarding the toughness of the Add Maths paper, especially from the candidates and their parents.

Examinations Syndicate director of examinations Adzman Talib responded to the concerns and explained that “every exam question was based on the curriculum taught to all candidates,” The Star reported.

He called on parents to not worry and assured them that the ministry would ensure that the students are treated fairly in all the exams.
