Everyone knows who SpongeBob SquarePants is and has probably watched him and his friends at least once before. Now, the cartoon characters who recently wished everyone a Happy Ramadan… has caused a Twitter fight instead!
SpongeBob and Patrick from the iconic cartoon series were seen wearing baju melayu (traditional malay wear) in their post to wish everyone a Happy Ramadan.
And while many people are praising the iconic characters' efforts and well wishes, the post was taken out of context and sparked an argument on social media instead!
It all started when users started commenting on how the outfits that the characters are wearing originated from Malaysia and other users argued that the clothing was inspired by Indonesian clothing instead!
Malaysian and Indonesian users then argued whether the characters are wearing batik or songket fabric, with Malaysian netizens explaining that both characters are wearing samping instead of the Indonesian batik shirt and sarung.
The fight to “claim” the characters' outfit ensued as many other users added that it’s pointless to fight, especially during Ramadan season.
Many other users decided to focus on the message from the cartoon characters instead and praised them for showing love during this Ramadan, while other users wondered what other outfits the other characters from the cartoon would wear.
Either way it’s certainly thoughtful for the people behind the cartoon to wish everyone Happy Ramadan!
Let us know your thoughts on the argument!
