Graduating from university is probably one of the proudest moments in most of our lives, and this student wrote a heartfelt post of how he broke down when his parents didn’t show up to the special moment of his life… again.
Jeric Rivas, a student from Philippines, wrote a post on Facebook expressing how he broke down crying at his own graduation after his parents failed to show up.
He revealed that they have not been there for him throughout his life, even when he excelled in elementary and high school and that he had to “borrow” his friend’s parents to give him his medal.
Having left his hometown of Shubuyan Island, he wanted to seek a better life and worked various jobs like a factory worker, fast food service crew and even a housemaid just to afford his uni’s tuition fees.
A few professors at his college helped him throughout his journey and provided shelter and other needs, thus becoming his second family.
On the day of his graduation, he looked and looked, but his parents never showed up. And when his name was called, he walked up the stage in tears.
“One of my other professors were standing there on stage waiting for me and gave me a hug. While that moment took some of my sadness away, I still ended up crying in front of everyone.”
“To my parents, who could still not accept me in their life, if you’re reading this, this is me now and I hope I made you proud…”
Jeric Rivas was a top student at the La Conception College in Philippines and is now a Bachelor Of Science In Criminology graduate and a “proud working student”!
We are certainly proud of you, Jeric Rivas! Hope nobody else has to go through what you’ve been through.
