It’s no surprise that Malaysians are workaholics. Unfortunately, it has gotten to a point where it can affect our health in the long run, and something needs to be done about it.
A 2017 study commissioned by travel booking website, Expedia, exposes that Malaysia is the 3rd most vacation-deprived country in the world!

Employees in Malaysia find it extremely difficult to detach themselves from their work. 65% of the respondents identified themselves as very or somewhat vacation deprived, with 52% cancelling their holiday plans (no) thanks to work. Even if they do get time off work to go for a vacation or holiday, they don’t fully enjoy it. This is because they’re always checking work-related emails or voicemails at least once a day!
There’s a tendency to overwork your brain when you don’t take enough breaks to unwind. Hetal Doshi, a local psychologist, warns that humans are numbing themselves when they overwork, and this paves the way for us to overreact at other things in life.

Taking a break can do us wonders. It may even help in going up the professional ladder! “If you’re able to take the time out to tune out everything, it’s likely that you’ll get promoted faster – purely because you understand and think better,” Hetal said.
We all know how having the work-life balance is super important, and it’s about time we walk the talk!
