If you’re living in an area in Subang Jaya with a shared space outside your home and you’re planning to grow fruits or veggies, it’s best to abandon the idea.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) shared that residents of Subang Jaya are no longer allowed to grow fruit trees and veggies in shared spaces without obtaining permission through Resident Representative Council (MPP) first.

“MBSJ has a policy for controlled tree planting and landscape beautification,” MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said in a statement reported by Malay Mail.

“This policy is applicable in open spaces, green areas and buffer zones within the administrative area of the Council and it is subject to the Park By-Laws (MPSJ) 2007.”

Verbal notices have been given to residents in Subang Jaya to remove plants growing on council land and remove potted plants placed in the front yard, behind their homes and even clotheslines, after MBSJ conducted rounds in the residential area, as told by residents to Malay Mail.

The policy aims to create a green, healthy and comfortable environment and placing flowerpots and planting trees uncontrollably can cause a mess, no uniformity and make some community members uncomfortable with little to no room in the open spaces.

“The planting of fruit trees attracts mosquitoes and ants that have become common complaints from residents.” Azfarizal added.

This came after residents were instructed by the Council to move potted plants and other items at playgrounds, road shoulders and more in order for grass-cutting activities to be carried out smoothly.

Azfarizal said that fruit trees, vegetables and potted plants are strictly prohibited and only the developers, MBSJ and MPP in collaboration with the Council, can plant trees outside of residents’ property.

What are your thoughts on the policy? Let us know!
