Unfortunately, this beautiful monument has lost some of its beauty over the years. Its once snowy-white marble walls have turned a dirty yellowish brown thanks to erosion caused by industrial pollution and acid rain.

India’s Supreme Court was especially concerned about leather industries and hotels being operated in the buffer zone meant to protect the Taj Mahal from pollution.
The court has demanded a detailed plan for the protection of the monument. The Uttar Pradesh state government is expected to come up with a document outlining the plans within a month.
