Love is in the air—and the dojo—for Cobra Kai stars Tanner Buchanan and Mary Mouser.
The longtime co-stars confirmed their engagement after sparking speculation by wearing matching diamond rings at the Netflix drama’s series finale event on February 12. The following day, they made it official with a joint Instagram post featuring romantic photos from their big night.
“We’re so happy to finally share that we’re engaged,” Buchanan wrote in the caption. “This is such a special moment in our lives, the closing of one chapter and celebrating the continuation of another.”
The 26-year-old actor continued, “We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world.”
In Cobra Kai, the hit sequel series to The Karate Kid, Mouser, 28, portrays Sam LaRusso, the daughter of karate legend Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), while Buchanan plays Robby Keene, the once-estranged son of Daniel’s longtime rival Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
Their on-screen characters have had their fair share of drama, but behind the scenes, their love story has flourished—and Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz couldn’t help but take some credit.
“We’re matchmakers first, showrunners second,” he joked in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Our primary goal with Cobra Kai was for Daniel LaRusso’s daughter and Johnny Lawrence’s son to fall in love in real life. Mission accomplished. So happy for them! A perfect couple!”
While the actors have worked together since the show’s debut in 2018, they’ve largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight. However, they’ve always spoken highly of each other.
Buchanan—who previously dated Gen V actress Lizze Broadway—once praised Mouser’s martial arts progress. “She’s really improved a lot over the past few years,” he told GQ in 2021. “And is absolutely killing it.”
Now, as Cobra Kai wraps up, Buchanan and Mouser are stepping into an exciting new chapter—this time, as future husband and wife.
