Taylor Lautner is making it clear—Selena Gomez doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for her body.

The Twilight actor recently spoke out against online trolls who criticized Selena’s appearance at the 2025 SAG Awards. In an Instagram Story, he reposted a side-by-side comparison of the singer from the 2024 and 2025 awards shows, along with cruel comments like, "Oh she big big" and "She looked better thicc."
Lautner didn’t hold back in his response.
"It's a cruel world full of hate out there," he wrote. "You can never please everyone, nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn’t make the words sting less—it just refocuses you on what matters. And it sure isn't the shape, color, or appearance of your body."
He also reminded fans to practice kindness, adding, "Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out… and to be a little nicer."
To drive his point home, Lautner paired his post with Gomez’s 2011 hit Who Says, a self-love anthem with lyrics like, "Who says you're not perfect?"

Lautner, who has been open about his own struggles with body image after playing werewolf Jacob Black in Twilight, isn’t the only one standing up for Selena.
The Only Murders in the Building star, 32, has faced ongoing scrutiny over her weight, which she has openly linked to her lupus diagnosis. The autoimmune disease can cause weight fluctuations, something Selena has spoken about in the past.
On the February 25 episode of The View, co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin defended Gomez after a Glamour op-ed discussed her "visibly slimmer" appearance at the SAG Awards. Hostin called out the public for fixating on Selena’s body, stating, "You don't know what's going on in that person's life."

Gomez, who revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2015 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, has long been candid about how public scrutiny has affected her.
"I really noticed when people started attacking me for that," she said in a 2019 episode of Giving Back Generation. "That got to me big time."
Despite the negativity, Gomez continues to embrace self-love and encourage others to do the same. And with friends like Taylor Lautner in her corner, the message is loud and clear: Beauty isn’t defined by public opinion.
