We love our bubble tea as much as the next person, but this teenage girl may have just taken her bubble tea love to the next level and got herself in serious pain because of it.

A 14-year-old girl from Zhejiang Province in China was recently hospitalised because of her bubble tea obsession.
According to AsiaOne, the girl couldn’t eat, had stomach pains, and was constipated for five days before her parents took her to the hospital to get her checked out.

Upon taking an X-ray, doctors noticed spherical shapes in her abdomen. They then found that the round shapes were actually undigested tapioca pearls - usually found in bubble tea, which were consumed days before.

Initially, the girl was reluctant to reveal what it was she ate that caused the pain, but she finally admitted to having indulged in bubble tea. However, she insisted that she had only drank one cup of bubble tea, five days before the incident.
A doctor involved in her case, however, suspected that the girl was hiding her real bubble tea consumption in fear of punishment from her parents. For the indigestion to be this severe, the girl would have had to have drunk a LOT of bubble tea over an extended period of time for her condition to be this severe.
The girl was prescribed laxatives to help with her situation.
As bubble tea pearls are generally made out of starchy tapioca, our digestive system takes a bit of time and effort to digest it.
While we all love our bubble tea, this is definitely a sign to slow down and maybe let the pearls digest before having another… Or cut back altogether? We’ll let you decide.
