One of the things that we look forward to the most during the month of August is the National Day Parade!
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a National Day parade this year.

In today’s press conference, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakon announced that the annual National Day parade will be cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
According to the Senior Minister, the special ministerial meeting has decided against holding any parades so as to avoid any possible risk of the virus spreading.
“Such gatherings are very big, in the thousands at least,” the Senior Minister noted. “Additionally, it is very difficult to enforce social distancing among the parade’s participants and audience.”

Other side programmes such as the waving of the Jalur Gemilang flag will still be held, the minister added.
“Several of these programmes will take place leading up to August 31, and some after that,” he said. “Any further changes to the details will be announced.”
“Should the ministerial meeting decide to hold other programmes, they too will be announced once the relevant standard operating procedures have been tabled and finalised,” he continued.

While we may not be able to watch the National Day parade this year, you can bet that we’ll still be proudly waving the Jalur Gemilang and celebrating from our homes!
