When you think of conventions, you think of cosplay. And when you think of cosplay, you think of young men and women strutting around in expensive costumes, posing for photos with homemade props.
You wouldn’t think of a woman in her 50s doing the same thing, would you?
Well, think again!
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Tia Sol!

Hailing from Manaus, Brazil, Solange Amorim was just another mother accompanying her daughter to conventions – until one of her friends dared her to give it a shot herself. Not one to back down from a challenge, Tia Sol (Aunty Sun in Portuguese) put together her first costume, attended her first convention, and the rest is history.

Since then, Tia Sol’s wardrobe has gone beyond Cartoon Network grannies. She’s appeared as various characters from Disney and Studio Ghibli productions, as well as classic anime and TV shows, playing mother figures and villains alike. Here are just a few of her creations:
Gramma Tala, Moana

Ursula, The Little Mermaid

Yubaba, Spirited Away

Rita Repulsa, Power Rangers

Kaede, InuYasha

Tia Sol’s cosplay has gained the attention of fans worldwide; she has over 34,000 fans on Facebook waiting for her next appearance at an upcoming convention in Brazil. As for Tia Sol, she has no plans of stopping soon. Her upcoming cosplay plans include, among others, Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter, Edna Mode from The Incredibles, and Olenna Tyrell from Game of Thrones.
