Sometimes we stumble upon a coin on the floor, or if we’re lucky, we might even find a note. But this man from Penang didn’t just stumbled upon some notes, he stumble upon a LOT of notes, “in the tens of thousands” he said.

While scavenging for recyclable materials in a landfill in Penang, Mohamad Fahmi Abdul Aziz picked up an old kettle and was shocked to find it full of Canadian dollars!

Now we’ve heard of lucky lamps, but it seems like Fahmi found himself a lucky kettle instead! However, he’s not planning on keeping any of the money. He wants to return it.
“It is a daily routine for me to collect recyclable items at the dumpsite with my two workers,” he said. “On Tuesday morning, I saw a shiny metal object half-buried in the ground.”
“I pulled it out and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that the kettle was filled with currency bills,” he continued. “I took it home and upon checking, I found it to be Canadian dollars. I was stunned.”
He even took a few notes that were found to a moneychanger who confirmed that it was indeed genuine Canadian dollars.

According to The Star, Fahmi refused to reveal the actual amount of money that was found as he wishes to be able to return the stack of C$100 notes to the original owner.
He did however mention that the amount was sizeable and “in the tens of thousands.”
“After a discussion with my wife and family members, we decided that it should be returned to the person who lost it,” Fahmi said. “It could have been somebody’s savings and it has definitely been disposed by mistake.”
“I will not reveal the amount as I want the owner to reveal how much is in the kettle as proof of knowledge,” he noted. “I didn’t want to make a police report because if I have to surrender the money, I won’t know what will happen to it.”
“I will seek advice from my religious teacher, and if I cannot find the owner, I might donate it to charity,” he added.

Unlike many, Fahmi however does not believe in the “finders, keepers” adage. When asked why he didn’t to keep the cash for himself, he maintained that it was not the right thing to do.
Our faith in humanity has definitely been restored! We applaud Fahmi’s honesty and hope that money is returned to the rightful owner!
