Tom Felton is heading back to Hogwarts — but this time, he’s trading the big screen for the Broadway stage. The Harry Potter actor, best known for his role as the sharp-tongued Slytherin Draco Malfoy, is officially joining the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in New York.

Starting November 11, Felton will take on the role of an older, more complex Draco for a 19-week run at the Lyric Theatre. This marks a major moment for Potter fans, as Felton becomes the first original cast member from the films to appear in the hit stage sequel.
Set nearly two decades after the final battle at Hogwarts, The Cursed Child follows the next generation of young witches and wizards — including Draco’s son — as they navigate legacy, magic, and time-traveling twists. Felton says stepping back into the role is both surreal and meaningful.
“It’s a full-circle moment for me,” Felton shared. “Being part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and now I get to experience Draco’s journey from a whole new angle. And yes — the platinum blond hair is back.”
Now 37, Felton will be the same age as Draco is in the play — a detail he finds especially fitting. To announce the news, he posted a moody Instagram clip in full costume, wand in hand, delivering the chilling line: “Scared, Potter?”
The Cursed Child has become a global theatre phenomenon since its debut in 2016. It’s now the highest-grossing non-musical play in Broadway history, with productions in London, New York, Tokyo, and Hamburg.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender called Felton’s return a “cultural moment charged with nostalgia, evolution, and emotion,” praising his ability to bring “depth, gravity, and humanity” to the character.
Since wrapping the Harry Potter film series in 2011, Felton has built a diverse résumé, appearing in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, making his West End debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story, and authoring the memoir Beyond the Wand. He also reunited with his former castmates in HBO Max’s Return to Hogwarts special.
With his return to the wizarding world, this time on stage, Felton is ready to reconnect with fans — and maybe cast a few new spells along the way.
