For the past two years, most Malaysians have had to endure celebrating major festive seasons and important occasions like Hari Raya Aidilfitri away from our families due to the travel restrictions. We all know and love how meriah Hari Raya celebrations can be, so spending not just one but two Rayas without our loved ones was tough!
So, what if you finally have the chance to cross borders and balik kampung this time, and you meet someone who refuses to go home to see his loved ones?
This latest Raya short film presented by UMW Toyota Malaysia is inspired by the importance of family and sheds light on the struggles of millennials living in the city.

Kota Raya tells the story of two friends, Aidil (Aedy Ashraf) and Fitri (Amerul Affendi)—no pun intended. They’re both childhood friends who now live in the city, but haven’t stayed in touch since they left their hometown.
As the first day of Raya is approaching, Aidil’s mum tries to convince him over the phone to go home for the holiday, especially after being apart for two years. But when she slips in the fact that she wants to introduce him to a girl, he gets frustrated and decides to stay in town, far away from any potential matchmaking nightmare.

Later that evening, he bumps into his childhood buddy Fitri. They chat about celebrating Raya in the city together and end up taking a joy ride around town to hang out and catch up. Halfway through the journey, Aidil falls asleep.

The next morning, Aidil wakes up only to find out that Fitri has driven him all the way back to their hometown, and snaps at him for going against his wishes.
