Here’s a short backstory on the feminist movement…
Feminism first began in the late 19th century, aimed at securing’s women’s right to vote. It was an idea that was fuelled because more women suddenly took a minute and realised, ‘Hey, that’s not right!’.
Over the years, there has been various types of feminism, and postmodern feminism is where we’re majorly at today. This era of feminism rejects the idea of a fixed identity and emphasises on diversity as well as complexity through representation.
In simpler terms, it’s a movement that empowers women to be themselves, without feeling judged or insecure.
What has lingerie got to do with it though?
More than a century ago, the lingerie that we know today looked very different. They came in the form of whalebone or steel corsets that forced women’s bodies into unrealistic hourglass shapes and were very uncomfortable to wear. Though they were made for women, they really were designed for the male gaze.
That didn’t sit well with women. Early feminists and designers began creating more lingerie options that empowered women to embrace their bodies instead. Not long after, the need to dress for men soon gave way to a decision to dress for themselves.
Lingerie unleashes your inner Goddess
This genre of lace, straps and strings became a way for women to express their attractiveness and femininity on their own terms. Today it is an empowering form of self-expression and self-confidence.
Many lingerie brands have also caught up to embrace a feminist perspective by celebrating body positivity, inclusivity, and diversity within their fashion line…
… and one of them is Triumph!
