With schools and universities being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it only makes sense that the major examination are too.
With SPM examinations previously announced to be postponed from 16 November to 7 December, the Education Ministry has now reportedly postponed the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and the Penilaian Tingkatan 3 (PT3) examinations as well to early December and late December.
The Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and the third-semester Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations are also expected to be postponed to around January to February 2021.
"The Education Ministry will be meeting to finalise the dates for the examinations and an announcement is expected to be made by the minister in the near future.”
"The postponements are necessary due to the extension of the movement control order (MCO) and the government's decision not to restart school sessions immediately after the MCO ends," the Education Ministry source told Malaysiakini.
The major examinations were originally scheduled to be held on the following dates:
UPSR: 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 September 2020
SPM: 5 to 14 Oct and 2 to 19 November 2020
STPM: 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10 November 2020
STAM: 21 to 22 October and 26 to 28 October 2020
Deputy Education Ministers Mah Hang Soon and Muslimin Yahaya, said to wait for the official announcement when contacted about the postponement.
Let’s hope that all students nationwide can return to school safe as soon as possible!
