Photos of the Olympic swimmer have been circulating on China’s social media after he appeared at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics opening ceremony coverage.
Though he had his face covered by his face mask during the two close-up shots, it was enough for people in China to go on a cyber hunt and find his other pictures, with many commenting on his “sunshine” and handsome looks.
Many also said that they have fallen in love with the swimmer and a dedicated channel for him was even created on the social platform Weibo!
They even said that he was dubbed the “Flying Fish Prince of Malaysia” and other info like his age (24), height (181cm) and more were included.
Welson Sim swam 3 mins 58.25 secs to finish 33 out of 36 swimmers in the Men’s 400m Freestyle (Heat 2) and a season best of 1.49.24 in Heat 2 of the 200m Freestyle to finish 32 out of 39 swimmers.
He might not have qualified for the finals but we are proud of him and it looks like his popularity will also be on a rise after getting the attention of China’s media!
