WhatsApp’s 1.5 billion users have spent over 2 billion minutes making calls on the app every day, and now, they’ll be able to open their conversations to others as well. Starting this week, WhatsApp is adding group calling for voice and video to its app!

Users can make group calls with a maximum of 4 people anytime, anywhere (as long as they have an internet connection). All you have to do is start a one-on-one voice or video call and tap the new ‘add participant’ button in the top right corner to add more contacts to the call.

According to WhatsApp, the calls are always end-to-end encrypted so you don’t have to worry about any third parties listening to your conversations.
With this new feature, WhatsApp joins a grooving number of other apps that offer the same functionality. Earlier this year, Apple announced that it’s adding group video chats for up to 32 people, whereas Skype and Google Hangouts are already allowing up to 25 participants per group call.

In comparison to this, WhatsApp’s four-person limit seems a little low obviously. But seeing as to how it’s a mobile app rather than desktop video conferencing software, it’s fairly reasonable. So, gossip sessions with your girlfriends and family catch-up calls are now made easier. Thank you, WhatsApp! 😉
