A tiny ripple can lead to a whole lot of chaos, and this woman proved just that after she single-handedly caused one of the worst recent cycling pile-ups.
The Tour de France is considered one of the biggest and most prestigious annual cycling race, but they didn’t expect one fan to take out most of the peloton with her cardboard sign.
The fan was reportedly holding a sign with a message for her grandparents and was a little too far into the road while she was grinning for the camera, causing a collision with one biker with her sign which then led to a chain of chaotic cycling pile-up.
Her sign says, “Allez Opi-Omi” a mixture of French and German that translates to “Go Granny and Grandpa!”
Many bikers and spectators were injured by the massive crash but only one rider had to pull out of the race.
French police are now looking for the unnamed female spectator that reportedly fled the scene after the accident, with the Tour de France saying that they will be filing a lawsuit against the fan.
“We are suing this woman who behaved so badly,” Pierre-Yves Thouault, the organization’s deputy director, told AFP. “We are doing this so that the tiny minority of people who do this, don’t spoil the show for everyone.”
A criminal enquiry for “deliberately violating safety regulations and so causing injuries that might prevent someone working for up to three months,” has been opened and might be punishable by up to a year in prison.
The video of the chaos caused by the fan went viral on the internet, with many asking her to stay home with her grandma and grandpa instead of causing a disruption at the cycling event.
It might not be intentional at the end of the day and we’re pretty sure she felt bad but it’s important to keep in mind that one tiny act could seriously injure someone if you’re not careful!
