Japanese koi fish have always been seen as a luxurious type of fish, especially because they are high maintenance and expensive.
When one woman’s koi fishes unfortunately died, she decided to turn them into a soup instead of wasting them…

Previously, we heard about an Indonesian man’s father who had deep fried his pet arowana and someone else who had deep fried dozens of betta fish.
Now, taking to the MASAK APA TAK JADI HARI NI OFFICIAL Facebook page, Amanda Omeychua shared that she decided to turn her Japanese koi into a soup dish after they accidentally died from suffocation when her maid forgot to turn off the water in their tank.

Taking to the comment section, Amanda said that she felt it would have been wasteful to throw away the fishes so she decided to cook them to eat instead.
And yes, before you ask, koi can be eaten. It may not be a usual choice of fish but it is safe and can be eaten.

According to Amanda, the koi tasted like ikan patin aka catfish.

Other users in the comment section shared that while eating koi may be unusual, it is not uncommon as there are people who see the fish as a delicacy.

While we’re still getting our heads wrapped around the concept of koi soup, we applaud Amanda’s choice to not be wasteful of food.
Have you ever tried koi? Would you make a dish out of them if this happened to you? Let us know what you’d do!
