Wild pandas have been an endangered species for a long time and only went from “endangered” to “vulnerable” status in recent years. And the world’s oldest panda that contributed to that status has just died.
Xin Xing, the world’s oldest panda was confirmed to have died at the age of 38 in the Chongqing Zoo in China.
The zoo announced that the panda that’s over 130 in human years has passed away at 8 December after multiple organ failures.
Xin Xing, also translates to “New Star” celebrated her 38th birthday in August this year and she’s also known as the “hero mother”, with a total of 153 descendants during her long life.
The panda is seen eating her birthday “cake” with all her favourite fruits topped on a chunk of ice to keep it fresh!
The zoo revealed that her health started deteriorating since 21 October and started experiencing oversleeping, coughing, lack of appetite and even have breathing and standing difficulty.
Unfortunately, all the efforts to save her failed despite multiple efforts from experts and the zoo was heartbroken over the passing of the beloved panda.
She was born in Baoxing County of Sichuan Province back in August 1982 and had lived in Chongqing Zoo ever since June 1983.
The official statement said that she died from an “illness” without specifying and it was unsure why the announcement came two weeks after the panda’s death.
