2016 gave us one of the biggest anime movies of all time – Kimi no Na wa aka Your Name! And now it will be remade into a live-action Hollywood movie!
But if you’re thinking about an all Japanese cast, you will be disappointed because the remake will not be set in Japan…
The live-action remake is reported to replace the Japanese main characters with a “young Native American woman living in a rural area and a young man from Chicago.”
The movie will be directed by the director of the “Amazing Spider-Man” movies and co-produced by the original film’s producer, Genki Kawamura as well as J.J. Abrams!
Bird Box and Arrival screenwriter, Eric Heisserer is also set to write the script for the remake.
Eric said that the Japanese executive wanted an Americanized remake because they could produce a live-action version themselves if they wanted an all-Japanese cast movie.
The original movie tells the story of a high school girl from rural Japan and a school boy in Tokyo that swapped bodies and decided to embark on a quest to meet each other.
Are you a fan of the original anime movie? Let us know your thoughts about the live-action remake!
