Zendaya is stepping into the fairy tale world of Shrek! Universal Pictures has officially announced that the Challengers star will be joining the cast of Shrek 5, lending her voice to Felicia, the now-grown daughter of Shrek and Fiona.
The exciting news was revealed in a first-look teaser, where longtime fans were treated to a nostalgic reunion of beloved characters—Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Pinocchio. But this time, they’re joined by an all-new addition to the story: Felicia, voiced by Zendaya.
The teaser shows Shrek and Donkey standing in front of the magic mirror once again, swiping through alternate versions of Shrek with Snapchat-style filters—including a towering, dancing Shrek and one with an unexpected six-pack. That’s when Felicia steps in, unimpressed, muttering, “Ew, dad.”
As the teaser wraps up, the magic mirror dramatically announces the returning cast—Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz—before pausing to say, “And… Zendaya? Oh-hoh, damn.”
Felicia was first introduced in Shrek the Third (2007) as one of Shrek and Fiona’s triplets, alongside brothers Fergus and Farkle. She last appeared as a toddler in Scared Shrekless (2010) and Shrek Forever After (2010), but Shrek 5 will finally show her all grown up and ready to take on new adventures.
The announcement comes after Mike Myers confirmed in December that a fifth Shrek installment was in development, despite his initial hesitation when first pitched the franchise. “Well, that’s the worst f--king title I’ve ever heard in my life,” he joked in an interview with Vulture, reflecting on his early thoughts about the 2001 original.
Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz’s return to Shrek 5 also marks another milestone in her comeback to Hollywood after a decade-long break. "To be able to come back after 10 years and even have this as an option," she told E! News, "to be able to make a movie at this level and to entertain people again—I always have seen it as a privilege."
Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to return to the Swamp—Shrek 5 is set to premiere in theaters on December 23, 2026, aligning perfectly with the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
With Zendaya joining the cast and the original voice actors returning, Shrek 5 is shaping up to be a fairytale comeback worth the wait!
