Imagine being really excited to head to the zoo to see all your favourite animals, especially big cats, but once you get there, instead of seeing a lion in its enclosure, you see a dog sitting in its place.

First, one zoo tried to pass off a dog as a wolf in one of their enclosures, and now, another zoo has been caught trying to pass off a dog as a lion.

When a man, only identified by his surname Tang, took his kid to visit the Yuanjiashan Zoo in Xichang, Sichuan, China, he was shocked to find that instead of a lion in the enclosure, he found a golden retriever in its place.

The enclosure that was clearly marked as an African lion enclosure, housed an adorable canine instead of a majestic feline.

“At first, we thought we had gone to the wrong place,” Tang said in a video. “But after walking around the cage, we realised it is where the lion should be housed.”

“Is that an African lion?” he joked. “Is it because it hasn’t grown up yet? It looks familiar to me.”

According to a zoo worker, the cage had previously housed a lion, however, the animal had been moved to another location.

“We are adjusting the animal’s accommodations, with the lion’s sign not taken down [from the cage] yet,” the worker told Tang.

Tang however did not accept this reasoning. He accused the zoo of falsely selling tickets that promoted lions but he did not find any lions anywhere else in the zoo.

“The money for the ticket is a small deal,” he said. “What matter [to] me more is that I don’t know how to explain the current situation to my kid.”

According to the Global Times, the dog that was in the enclosure apparently belonged to the zoo owner who had repurposed the cage to house his pet.

The zoo has since apologised for the mix up in the viral video and insists that there are now lions in the zoo.

We hope Tang’s kid isn’t too confused by the zoo’s “lion”.
