Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold is an initiative by Astro and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to level up our street dancers so that they can compete at the Olympics, and bring home our country’s first gold medal!

A special team has also been created to make this golden dream come true

The focus isn’t just on street dancers. The Ministry has created a committee, aptly named Road to Gold (RTG), to help all our national athletes be at the top of their game. The end goal? To bring home Malaysia’s first Olympics gold at Olympics Paris 2024 and Olympics Los Angeles 2028!

Who are the members of RTG?

The committee is jointly chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, and YBhg. Tan Sri (Dr.) Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM).

You’ll recognise some familiar faces in there too. Former national athletes such as Datuk Nicol Ann David, Datuk Wira (Dr.) Lee Chong Wei, and Dato' Mirnawan bin Datuk Haji Nawawi have volunteered to lend their expertise and experience to the cause.

Additionally, Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, who is the Malaysian Football League Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Management Board of the National Sports Council (NSC), will serve as the RTG Project Coordinator.

What will RTG do to help our athletes win gold?

It’s collaborating with the existing Podium Program (a program that focuses on preparing elite athletes—including our para-athletes—through daily and overseas training including) to provide our sportspeople with:

  • In-country and out-of-country competitions
  • Coaching services
  • Staff support
  • Sports science
  • Medical services
  • Personal development programs

The RTG committee will also strengthen the Podium Program by eliminating barriers, overcoming existing limitations, and providing additional support to our potential gold medal winners.

It’s our time to shine on the global stage

With all these efforts being put in, we’re pretty sure that gold will be ours one day! Keep up with the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ initiatives via their official website, Facebook and Instagram.
